My wife and I recently celebrated our 16th anniversary. We enjoyed a night out, without kids. Dinner for two at Lapeer in downtown Alpharetta, one of our favorite suburbs of Atlanta.

We decided to explore the newly redeveloped downtown area, because of the great restaurants and night life.

We started the night, with a drink at Up on The Roof. Afterwards, we headed across the street to Lapeer.

Lapeer recently had a menu change, and for the better in my opinion. We haven’t been to this restaurant since it opened many years ago, before Covid.

Last time, it was primarily a seafood restaurant and I order the lobster roll. I loved it and think it is one of the best lobster rolls in Atlanta area, yet I thought the menu was lacking something. Either seafood specials or steak.

I was tempted to order the lobster roll again, but wanted to try something new on the menu.

They added a filet, which I ordered and will get to shortly.

Lapeer Restaurant and Location

Located in the heart of downtown Alpharetta, Lapeer is one of the many dining options in the walkable town center, but we think it is one of the best downtown Alpharetta restaurants.

The restaurant is located adjacent to the green space and water fountains in the city center.

We booked reservations 4 days in advance and got a 7pm dinner slot.

This restaurant gets really busy. All the bar seats were full and they weren’t accepting walk in’s.

The decor has a somewhat trendy, coastal vibe to it. They use rope and wood in most of the decor. It’s upscale, yet casual at the same time.

The Food At Lapeer Restaurant in Alpharetta

My past experience at Lapeer, we ordered oysters on the half shell and I had the lobster roll. The lobster roll was buttery deliciousness.

This time, I went for the steak.

Before the steak, we enjoyed the complementary rolls.

After that, my wife and I shared a wedge salad. The staff forgot to split the salad in two and we had to do this ourselves. The waitress apologized a half dozen times.

I ordered a 10 oz filet, cooked to medium. The price tag was $65 and no, it did not include a side. I ordered mashed potatoes with au jus, which was great because I took advantage of dipping my steak in the au jus, instead of ordering a sauce for an additional charge.

For a baseball shaped filet, it was cooked perfectly to medium as I requested. As someone who cooks a lot of steak, this is not always easy with a cut of beef like this one.

My only complaint was the price tag. I would have loved the bone-in prime ribeye. I just have a hard time paying nearly $99 for a piece of meat on my own dime.

scallops and mushrooms

My wife decided on the scallops. I think the scallops were an daily special replacing the fresh catch. I tasted the scallop and it was cooked perfectly. Crispy on the outside and warm and tender on the inside.

She also shared the mushroom and vegetables from her dish. I loved mushrooms and they were a nice addition to my steak and roasted garlic on the plate.

Lapeer Restaurant Summary

Overall, the food was amazing and the service was outstanding. For the price, Lapeer in Alpharetta is more of a special occasion destination for us, rather than an every day kind of restaurant.

There were kids in the restaurant, but we would probably prefer to just get a babysitter for this spot.
