Whether you call it fútbol or soccer, an Atlanta United home game is one of the best professional sports experiences in Atlanta. Locals from Atlanta love the electrifying experience. In fact, going to an Atlanta United home game at Mercedes Benz stadium is my families favorite professional sports event in the area.

So whether you visiting from out of town, or maybe it is your first time attending a game, below you will find some tips to make your first game stress free.

Why You Should Go To An Atlanta United Home Games at Mercedes Benz Stadium

Seeing a game live, at Mercedes Benz Stadium is an amazing experience. The stadium itself is beautiful and is a landmark of Atlanta.

Most folks stand up the entire game, cheer, participate in chants and when there is a goal, get ready! It gets loud!

Atlanta United entered the MLS in 2017 as an expansion team. In 2018, they won the MLS Cup. This immediate achievement really ignited the fan base in Atlanta.

While Atlanta United was more competitive in years past, whether a win or loss, watching a game at Mercedes Benz Stadium is really a fun experience for everyone in the family.

Here are some tips and tricks to maximizing your enjoyment at an Atlanta United game at Mercedes Benz stadium.

Considerations For Where You May Want To Sit

Mercedes Benz stadium truly is an amazing stadium. Most seats are pretty good. Your decision will be to pick a $30 seat in the 2nd level, spend a little more closer to the field or if you want spend hundreds of dollars, you can get spot at field level in the Truist Club.

If you are in the 200 level, which I have sat in numerous times, you will still be able to see all the action of the game. That’s the beauty of Mercedes Benz Stadium, there are no awful seats.

While I never had club level seats, like I did at Atlanta Braves stadium, the club level at Mercedes Benz looks amazing. The seats are basically right next to the pitch.

Most of the time we sit in a 100 level section adjacent to the supporter section. Our kids love participating in the chants and songs.

Any way you go, you will surely have a memorable experience!

Considerations For Before The Game (Things To Bring/Not To Bring)

Atlanta United Gear

The first thing you should know, the fans take the game very seriously. Usually everyone is wearing a jersey or some other Atlanta United T shirt at a home game.

The jerseys at the stadium, while authentic, are expensive. My 5 stripes black jersey was over $100. My 9 year old loves jerseys too, he has two.

If I could do it over, I would have ordered a jersey off the internet and saved a few bucks.

Many fans also wear the big Atlanta United scarves.

Pack Light

I will never forget the day my wife brought a large purse/bag stuffed with unnecessary things when my kids were very little. It was our first time going to an Atlanta United home game.

She was denied entrance.

I walked the bag bag to the car and brought only the necessary things a little child needs. It wasted 30 minutes.

Mercedes Benz Stadium official bag policy:

Bags must be CLEAR plastic, vinyl or PVC and not exceed 12” x 6” x 12”. Bags cannot be tinted with color or include oversized content that prevents visibility into the clear bag.

Only non-clear bags that are smaller than 4.5” x 6.5” will be permitted into the stadium.

Things To Bring

You don’t really need much to have a great time at an Atlanta United home game. Mercedes Benz stadium really has everything you could want or need at a fan.

The one thing you may not think of is the possible need for sunscreen. If you are tailgating, most likely you will want it anyway. But, the Mercedes Benz stadium has a retractable roof. Most games I have been to, the roof was closed. However, if you happen to get a sunny spot in the stadium you may wish you brought sun tan lotion.

Other than that, the basics:

  • tailgating stuff if reserve a tailgating lot
  • Tickets (on phone)
  • Parking pass if you pre ordered a spot
  • Clear bag to bring in other belongings.

Getting To The Atlanta United Home Game

You really have 3 options:

  • Uber/Lyft
  • MARTA
  • Drive and Park

If you have convenient access to MARTA, this is probably the best option. Traffic getting into and out of the stadium area can take a while just getting from 75/85. MARTA is best to avoid all this traffic congestion.

If you choose to park, and didn’t reserve a spot in advance, you will see many lots with signs telling you a dollar amount to park.

If you are like me and panic at the thought of picking a lot on the fly, I always reserve something in advance. Sometimes we pick a lot that very close to the stadium and other times we are looking for a tailgating lot. Either way, there are many lots to choose from. To find the lots, I’d suggest Mercedes Benz parking lot map. Typically the closer to the stadium, the cost goes up.

For Uber/Lyft, I honestly have not done this. I would assume that rates surge after the game, so this might be costly.

MARTA is right there!

Food and Concessions At Mercedes Benz Stadium

Walking around the stadium, you will find many concessions with options like BBQ, pizza, hot dogs and burgers. There are so many options, all you really need to do is walk a little to find something.

However, if you have read this blog, you know I love local Atlanta restaurants. Here are our favorite restaurants in downtown Atlanta if you are looking for something before the game.

If want to enjoy something in the stadium, here are a few notable vendors in the stadium that are worth checking out:

  • Fox Bros. BBQ has a main location in section 136 and sandwiches in sections 238 and 342. (Sorry, Fox Bros closed its 3 stalls in the stadium.)
  • Farm Burger is a local Atlanta burger chain.
  • Gamechanger, is the Top Chef alumni Kevin Gillespie sandwiches, including a delicious fried chicken sandwich.
  • Sublime Donuts if you are craving something sweet.

The Mercedes Benz stadium is located in Downtown Atlanta in the Centennial Park District. All four of these hotels are within walking distance to everything you want to see in the Centennial Park District of Atlanta including the stadium.
