8 Famous Atlanta Landmarks To Visit

It is well known that there are many landmarks around Atlanta, especially after the city hosted the Olympics. There is plenty more to see and do. Atlanta has amazing architecture, historic museums, monuments, unique restaurants, arts and other cultural phenomenon. All of these have contribute to the amazing Atlanta landmarks that can be found in the metropolitan area.

In no particular order, here are some photo worthy landmarks in Atlanta and the surrounding metropolitan area that you will enjoy visiting.

Centennial Olympic Park

This park is located in the Centennial Park District of downtown Altanta. The neighborhood contains many of Atlanta’s top attractions. The park has 22 acres dedicated to the legacy of when Atlanta hosted the summer Olympics. Today, it is a place where kids can splash in the water fountains, you can snap a photo next to the Olympic Rings or just enjoy the playgrounds, gardens, and expansive lawns.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. birth home, national landmark in Atlanta

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park has many historical landmarks to explore. The park is just steps from the location where he was born and raised on Auburn Ave.

The acreage around the park in the Sweet Auburn neighborhood is beautifully manicured. There are many buildings you can tour and things to see while you are there.

Some of the primary landmarks and monuments within the park that you will want to see are:

  • Ghandi Statue
  • Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church
  • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. birth home
  • Historic Fire Station No. 6

Krog Street Tunnel

Located in the Inman Park neighborhood, The Krog Street tunnel is the epicenter of street art in Atlanta. This Atlanta landmark is a working tunnel, which is always changing. It is filled with murals, event listings, celebrations, political messages and much more.

The Vortex

The Vortex is a landmark in little five points neighborhood of Atlanta

The Vortex Bar and Grill is a landmark restaurant in Little Five Points neighborhood.

Driving down Moreland Avenue, you cannot miss this iconic restaurant. The large skeleton face with red penetrating eyes and the painted murals surrounding the building really stand out, even in this eclectic Atlanta neighborhood.

This bar achieved the best burger in Atlanta credentials. Whether or not this is the best burger in Atlanta is up for debate, but in the least it should be near the top of the list.

SkyView Atlanta

skyview is an atlanta landmark in the city center.

The SkyView in Atlanta is a giant ferris wheel overlooking Centennial Olympic Park. The ferris wheel is 20 stories high. At the top, you will find amazing, panoramic views of the city of Atlanta and all the top attractions in the Centennial Park district.

Georgia State Capitol and Museum

This Atlanta landmark was named a National Historic Landmark in 1974. Although it is much smaller that the surrounding skyscrapers in the Atlanta skyline.

While driving along 75/85 in downtown Atlanta, it is hard to miss the Georgia State Capitol building. It features a golden roof that actually has real gold on it. They used 20 ounces of gold leaf on the outer layer of the roof.

Mercedes Benz Stadium

The Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United home games are played at Mercedes Benz Stadium. This relatively new stadium was built in 2017.

The stadium features a circular shaped retractable roof, in the center of the stadium.

Ponce City Market

Located in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood of Atlanta, this market is a converted Sears building and features a food hall, shops & living space. It also has an amazing rooftop with bars and games.

The Sundial Restaurant On Top Of The Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel

The Westin Peachtreee Plaza Hotel is a cylindrical shaped building is located in the central business district in downtown Atlanta. It’s exterior is all reflective glass.

On top you will find a rotating restaurant with amazing views of the Atlanta skyline. This building is the tallest hotel in Atlanta and the fifth tallest buildings in Atlanta.
