You may be wondering how long it takes to see everything at the park. The answer really depends on if you want to see. Will you tour every available building and read every piece of historical information or will you only stop at the primary sites?

For an expedited visit where you only want to see the majors sites, it will probably take 30 minutes.

To experience everything the park has to offer, it will take about 2 hours.

Some of the primary things you will want to see:

  • Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park Visitor Center
  • Civil Rights Walk of Fame
  • Ghandi Statue

How To Get There and Parking

If you are driving and are using Google Maps, you will probably have the same problem I did. It doesn’t take you to the parking lot. It just drives you near the park.

There is a free parking lot for visitors to the MLK National Historical Park. If you are traveling from the 85, you will take the exit 248C for GA-10 E/Freedom Pkwy/Carter Ctr.

In less than a mile take a right on Boulevard NE. Then, take right on John Wesley Dobbs Ave NE. The parking lot entrance is on your left. If you pull all the way down to the end of the parking lot, towards Irwin Street, you will have an easy walk to the visitor center.

In the map above, just follow the arrows to the parking lot.

For MARTA riders, there is a stop on the blue and green lines, named King Memorial. It is about a 5 block walk from the MARTA station. Head north on Jackson St. or Boulevard NE.
