Zyka, The Taste opened its second location in Atlanta. This time Zyka set its sights on Alpharetta. I have not been to the location in Decatur yet, so I had no idea what to expect, nor what all the fuss was about.

I had two initial thoughts:

First, why is Zyka targeting Alpharetta? I thought there is already a lot of competition over Indian Food in Alpharetta, how can another one survive? Yet Zyka, is already one of the best Indian Food restaurants in Atlanta, certainly they will be successful in Alpharetta, too.

My second thought was Zyka is a strange name. Why name something after a virus. You do remember the Zika virus, right? I know it is hard to remember anything beyond Covid. Zika was the mosquito’s spreading instead of the air, like Covid

After a quick stop on their website, I realized Zyka’s meaning is “taste.”

To my surprise, Zyka is not like other Indian restaurants in the area. There is no lunch buffet. No plates. No waiters.

This is quick service and casual.

My best assessment of Zyka, is no frills Indian Food. It’s just paper plates, paper cups, throw away plastic utensils and tap water.

Zyka Alpharetta Menu and Food

The menu is not very large. It is separated into vegetarian dishes and non vegetarian dishes.

There are about 8 options for each. On the meat side, most of the usual go to menu items were there including, chicken 65, chicken tikka masala and chicken biryani. There were a few that I am less familiar with like Nehari and Goat Paya.

On the vegetarian side, I wish I would have ordered the Dal Hyderabadi. The person next to me was eating it and it smelled wonderful. The Paneer Makhni looked good too.

I was very tempted to eat vegetarian, because I am limiting meat, but I was craving some butter chicken. So that is what I ordered.

Upon ordering, I realized the curry came with nothing. If you wanted rice or naan, it was extra. I couldn’t see myself eating a bowl of butter chicken without rice and naan, so I added the extras. This pushed my bill up over $15 for lunch.

I tried to order unsweet tea, but they only had a water machine. The other options I wasn’t up for, like a mango lassi or chai tea.

Overall, the butter chicken was excellent. Much better than some of the bland buffet’s. Every bite was decadent and the spice level was near perfect for me. It packed enough heat to feel it, but not enough to leave my lips burning.

The rice was cooked wonderfully and the naan was fresh baked and still warm.

I didn’t think it was going to be enough to fill me, but I was terribly wrong. I left very full.

Zyka Alpharetta Location and Address

The location is slightly tucked away. It is a few hundred feet off of Old Milton Parkway amongst many office buildings. It is a newer looking, modern building and everything appeared very clean.

While I was there, the restaurant is only half the building. There was a large room with supplies you can see from the entrance as you walk in. Perhaps a future ball room or more seating down the road.
