As a regular golfer, I wasn’t sure what to expect before my first Top Golf experience in the Atlanta area. But, after 20 visits to a Top Golf in the Atlanta area and counting, I am comfortable recommending the attraction to regular golfers and even to beginner golfers who have never swung a club before. In this post, we will review everything you need to know before your first visit to a Top Golf in metro Atlanta.

You see, the number of games you can enjoy are vast. These games can make an enjoyable experience whether you are playing target practice with the guys over a few beers, date night drinks and golf or an afternoon at TopGolf with the kids.

When it comes to my kids, they love playing the Angry Birds game. It’s fun because you can set the game up to be difficult for an expert, yet change the degree of difficulty for the kids, so the match becomes a fun competitive game at a level playing field. Usually my kids end up beating me.

If I have moved too far and you don’t know what I am talking about, let me back up.

TopGolf Information For Atlanta

What is Top Golf in Atlanta?

Top Golf is simply a tech heavy driving range built for a social experience. There are many different color targets out in the range that you can aim for and earn points, depending on the game you select.

The targets are made of circular netting. They resemble an archery target or the circles around a dart board, but much larger and in the ground instead of standing upright. Generally, the closer your ball lands to the middle of the target, the more points you earn.

Without getting very technical, the golf balls are equipped with some kind of GPS tracking device. After someone hits the ball, you and your party can watch the ball flight on the screen, comfortably from one of the couches in the driving range bay and see exactly where it lands in the target.

The entire range is surrounded by netting, to keep your ball in bounds.

Reservations During Busy Times Are Recommended

Walk in’s are always welcome. However, if you want to avoid a wait, reservations are recommended.

Although, if you go on a weekday early afternoon, you probably don’t need a reservation. During peak times though, a reservation can prevent you from waiting for an hour or more for a bay. Typically you need to book the reservation at least a day in advance because the spots fill up.

Variable Pricing at TopGolf in Atlanta

The pricing is done by hour per bay and it can change dramatically based on what day you visit and even what time of day. Generally speaking, evenings on the weekend tend to charge up to $50 per hour for a group of 6 at one bay on the high end. On a Tuesday, early afternoon, you probably will pay half that amount.

As pricing changes, please check the current pricing at your local venue.

Top Golf is Kid Friendly (During The Day)

What age should my kid be to enjoy TopGolf?

While there is really no answer to this question, I can provide my experience.

At age 3 to 5 – most children are not ready to participate. When my little one was at TopGolf at this age, I was a nervous, watching him like a hawk. Here are some considerations for you.

  • While there are some young Tiger Woods out there, most children this age cannot make great contact with a golf ball and lose interest after a few minutes.
  • Children this age tend to not listen well and walk behind people trying to swing a club. There is a yellow line they are not supposed to cross, but I had to constantly remind my little one. The last thing you want is a small child getting whacked by a golf club.
  • The ledge. The range is 3 stories high. If you get assigned a bay on the top floor, I was always nervous my little one would fall. There is netting to catch you, if you step off, I just didn’t want to test the strength of the netting.

At age 6+ – Most children are able to enjoy swinging the golf club and listen to instructions. You know your child by now and should be able to gauge their ability to listen to rules, concentrate on a single task and how much they would enjoy an interactive golf experience.

On the weekends at night, the music gets loud and alcohol starts flowing. It’s probably not the best environment for kids later in the evenings.

Top Golf Is a Perfect Rainy Day Activity

Yes, TopGolf is covered and temperature controlled (somewhat.) It is open air, but there are space heaters in the ceiling and indoor air condition at the bar and restaurant.

Most of the time, rain is not an issue. I was there once when the wind was blowing the rain sideways and we all got a little wet while we were on the tee.
