We finally had a chance visit the Gate City Brewing taproom. I have wanted to go for years, knowing that they make some tasty beers. The “OTP” double IPA and the Copperhead amber can be found at many of the restaurants we visit. Yet, I never actually made it into the brewery in Roswell.

Every time we find ourselves in Roswell, we are circling the area looking for parking, only to barely make our dinner reservation. Not this time, we had just enough time for a pour.

Below you will find our experience at Gate City.

Gate City Brewing Co. Taprooms

If you were only walking down Canton Street, you never appreciate the size of the Gate City brewing taproom. In fact, we had time before our reservation at Table and Main, and we walked into what we thought was the taproom, only to learn it was the Artillery Room, which is focused on craft cocktails.

If you follow this blog, you know that we are visiting all the breweries in Atlanta and we were set on checking out the brews. The bartender informed us that the main taproom was located downstairs in the back.

Little did we know what was all down there.

Walking down the back door steps from the Gate City Artillery room, you will see a large open courtyard. The day we visited, the temperature was 70 degrees and sunny. Most people were outside.

In the alley, next to the taproom was a food truck vendor. Todays option was a Tex-Mex. It smelled wonderful, however we had dinner reservations shortly, so I had to save my appetite.

To the left was a large taproom with three open garage doors. It is truly indoor/outdoor experience.

Many people brought their dogs. Some people brought their little kids and they were running around the courtyard.

On the other side of the the courtyard is a secondary taproom. It’s smaller, but also opens up with garage doors. There are more seats and a few tv’s, if you are looking for the game.

The brewery was comfortable and relaxed, with plenty of space to sit or stand and just have a good time.

The Beers At Gate City Brewing

draft list at Gate City Brewing

I wanted to try something new on draft from Gate City. Something I can’t find in the store. I also wanted to find something that fit with the month of October.

I decided on the 2 Headed Goat. This is a 10.9%, dopplebock. It was packed with malty sweetness. You could definitely taste the alcohol, but I don’t think it was overpowering. There was still plenty of sweet and a little bit of spice that I couldn’t place exactly. But it was delicious.

My wife decided to go with a basic beer, the Tiny Brown table beer. This is a brown ale. It is an easy drinking beer with some malty flavor. It’s only 4%, so more of a session beer.

If it was up to me, I could have spent hours watching college football and sampling the many different varieties of beers. My perfect vision of an early evening well spent. Particularly, I still want to try the sour IPA. Next time!
