After finishing an excellent dinner at Southbound in Chamblee, there is a brewery, Contrast Artisan Ales, just up the street. This brewery has been getting excellent reviews. In fact, it was ranked in the top 5 best breweries in the suburbs of Atlanta, based on the data I collected.

This is our review of our visit to Contrast Artisan Ales.

This Ramble Atlanta website has many goals, but one of them is to visit and review all of the Atlanta Breweries. This one was very high on the list for my next stop.

If you have been following along, Contrast Artisan Ales is our 10th brewery visit in Atlanta.

Contrast Artisan Ales Brewery

The brewery is located near downtown Chamblee and is about halfway between the Chamblee and Doralville MARTA stops.

The brewery itself is rather small. On one side is the brewing equipment and on the other side is a large white granite bar top and a few indoor tables and chairs, next to a very cool mural.

While we visited, most people were sitting outside at the picnic tables. It was a beautiful spring day.

Before actually visiting the brewery, my impression was that it was going to be an upscale spot, simply basing my judgment off of the name and the look and feel of their website. This perception couldn’t be further from the actual truth. The brewery is extremely casual.

While I was there, many of the people were enjoying a game of cards on the picnic tables next to the brewery or were having a doggy meet up while enjoying a couple brews. A few others were playing corn hole in the parking lot.

It felt like a backyard meet up friends, except with amazing brews.

The Beers At Contrast

I tried multiple beers at Contrast and each one was excellent.

The first beer I ordered at the brewery was the Beatnik. I wanted to start with low octane and work my way up.

If the Beatnik was readily available in my neighborhood, this would be a routine beer for me. It is smooth and crisp. Perfect for a warm day in the sun. It is a hoppy lager, but it didn’t taste bitter at all. In fact, it had pleasant sweetness to it and finished crisp.

The second beer I tried at the brewery was the Faded 2.0. This is a hazy IPA that was moderately strong at 6.7%. It had a sweet initial taste. The finish tasted deeply hoppy. Almost like you could taste the bud of the hops (or dank weed.)

I brought two brews home in cans. The Lego Hands and the Thunder Shirts.

The Lego Hands was a much stronger hazy IPA. It has a bold citrus flavor to it and a mellow hop finish.

I shared the Thunder Shirts with a friend and we both enjoyed this sour beer. It was excellent, with flavors of basil and strawberry.

Overall, I really enjoyed the beers at Contrast. They were unique and tasty.

Next time I want to get my hands on the Hypnotize Biggie Stout!
