Vickery Creek Trail in Old Mill Park is a Scenic Hike

Vickery Creek Trail is a wonderful, scenic hiking trail, near downtown Roswell, Ga. It is one of the many wonderful hikes with the the Chattahoochee National Recreational Area.

This is one of the best hikes in Atlanta and a delightful place to spend the afternoon. The trail features two historic mills, a large waterfall, a covered bridge and over 4 miles of shady, densely wooded trails. No wonder, this hike is a popular in town hiking spot.

Vickery Creek Trail Parking Area’s

You can access this trail from two locations. There is a large parking lot on Mill St, which starts the trail, at the most scenic section, where the large waterfall can be explored.

The parking lot is right next to the old mill ruin.

You start the hike by traversing a covered bridge. If you head all the way down to the banks of the river, you can catch a glimpse of the waterfall from either side.

The second location has a smaller parking lot and can be accessed from Riverside road, along the banks of the Chattahoochee River.

Difficulty: Moderate

Pets: Welcome, on leash

Kids: Some sections have steep inclines and steep drop offs from the side of the trail. Parents need to pay attention.

Length: Outer Loop over 4 miles. Customize to your preference.

The trail extends over 4 miles, if you take the outer loop. However, you can customize the length as you see fit.

While most of the trail is flat, there are some steep hilly sections, making this a moderately difficult trail.

The Vickery Creek Trail is heavily trafficked. This is especially true during coronavirus. If you wish to avoid crowds, Pick a time in the morning. Same thing if you don’t want to constantly wait if you are trail running. On the weekends, there are many people on the trail and parking can be difficult.

The waterfall can be viewed from both sides of the river. When facing the creek from the parking lot, the waterfall will be to the left. Follow the stone path to the viewing area.

Or if on the trail, go across the covered bridge and head up the staircase. Once at the top, head left and follow the map to VC 19 from the linked map above. There will be a place to snap a photo. Be careful along the rocky banks of the river. They are quite slippery.

After your hike on Vickery Creek Trail, head into downtown Roswell to explore some of the attractions or many dining options. If you are in the mood for a sandwich, head to the Fickle Pickle. Warning, they are closed Sundays.

After stopping for lunch, you could explore the Chattahoochee Nature Center or the rest of the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area.
