What qualities make for amazing southern restaurants in Atlanta?
This is a loaded question.
There are a variety of outstanding southern restaurants in and around the Atlanta.
Southern can mean Cajun. It can also mean soul food or classic country cooking.
Personally, my favorite southern restaurants in Atlanta are the ones that take a classic southern dish and elevate to new levels.
However, sometimes I like the simple things like comforting collard greens, fried okra or fried chicken.
If I didn’t share your favorite southern restaurant near Atlanta, it’s probably because I never visited it or heard of it. So please let me know!

Colonnade
Neighborhood: Morningside-Lenox Park
The Colonnade has been frying chicken since 1927. This is a no frills, old school style southern American experience serving some classic and consistent dishes. Expect a protein with 2 sides.
I would go with the fried chicken, it’s what they are famous for.

Wisteria
Neighborhood: Inman Park
One of the best Inman Park restaurants, Wisteria serves modern southern dishes.
The menu mixes elevated traditional southern land based proteins, like iron skillet fried half chicken, with many seafood options like Charleston style crab cake. The best part is that they have gluten free and vegetarian options.

Milton’s Cuisine and Cocktails
Neighborhood: Milton
Milton’s restaurant is located in an old farmhouse, preserving the legacy of Milton in North Fulton county. The restaurant is charming and the food is elevated southern style cuisine. Many of the ingredients are sourced directly from the garden. If you are up for a fun experience with a group, a few weeks out of the year, they offer family style garden side dining.

Table and Main
Neighborhood: Roswell
Table and Main is located in a charming converted house along Canton street in downtown Roswell. It is one of my favorite Roswell restaurants.
When the weather is great, try sitting on the large outdoor patio under the stars.
The fried chicken is one of the best in Atlanta. After visiting this restaurant multiple times, I have yet to order a disappointing dish.

Southbound
Neighborhood: Chamblee
If you are looking for creative southern comfort food infused with ingredients from elsewhere look no further than Southbound. This restaurant is comfortable, warm and homey, located in a beautifully renovated historic 1800 building in downtown Chamblee.
Fan favorite dishes include the Chamblee Hot Chicken sandwich with Szechuan spices, or the Southern Ramen which is pictured above.

South City Kitchen
Neighborhood: Multiple
Simply southern classics! South City Kitchen serves elevated southern food in a simple clean, contemporary restaurants.
I have not tried it, but rumor is they serve a really good Sunday brunch.

Century House
Neighborhood: Woodstock
When I have out of town visitors, I always love taking them out to eat at the Century House is downtown Woodstock. It blends the right atmosphere in the historic, refurbished house with outstanding American food with southern touches.

South Main Kitchen
Neighborhood: Alpharetta
South Main Kitchen, in downtown Alpharetta, elevates some of your favorite homestyle dishes to new levels. Pure deliciousness. With something as simple as brussel sprouts, I couldn’t get enough of them.
It earns it’s spot as one of the best restaurants southern restaurants in Atlanta for its amazing food and consistent experience.

Miller Union
Neighborhood: West Midtown
Miller Union is a farm-to-table restaurant with southern accented dishes. The menu is constantly changing depending on the seasons.
The restaurant and chef are highly awarded.

Mary Mac’s Tea Room
Neighborhood: Midtown
This is a classic Southern restaurant in Midtown Atlanta. They have been serving since 1945.
So if you are visiting Atlanta and want to experience authentic Southern fare, Mary Mac’s Tea Room is your spot. This restaurant was named “Atlanta’s Dining Room” by the state of Georgia.
