I’ve wanted to try a burger from Canyons Fresh Grill for a while. Although, I haven’t stopped in beautiful downtown Woodstock for lunch or dinner in months.

I finally did it.

Here you will find our review on Canyons burgers.

How was I introduced to Canyons?

About 4 months ago, I was in Woodstock for youth soccer. When I got home, I made a call to my utility company about an overcharge. For whatever reason, I mentioned I had just come from Woodstock and the conversation suddenly changed.

He went on raving about his experience with Canyons burgers. He said it is one of the best burgers in Atlanta.

Well, this was enough of a recommendation that I had to try it for myself.

The restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Woodstock next to the Pure Taqueria. They are separated by a small, beautiful courtyard with nice plantings.

Once inside, it looks like a normal quick casual restaurant with an order counter, fountains and condiments.

After you order, you are provided with a number to display on your table and the food is brought out to your table.

All the service provided was amazing. Everyone was very friendly and the surrounds were clean.

I arrived early, before the lunch crowd at 11:30.

Canyons Burger

It was actually rather difficult to select a burger. I wanted to try something that was a core representation from their menu. There was at least a dozen options, plus the option to build your own.

I decided to try one of their “classics.”

The Red Smoke had three full slices of bacon, cheddar cheese, grilled onions and barbeque sauce.

The bun was really good. Baked hard on the outside and grilled, yet fresh in the middle.

The bacon was cooked well, with a crunch to it.

The fries were an additional $3.50 charge. While they looked like the frozen crinkle fries I bake for my kids, yet they taste way better. Like they should not even be compared. Looks were decieving.

I also ordered an unsweet tea. Yes, I am originally from the northeast and still don’t understand why y’all drink sweet tea.

Overall, I enjoyed the burger. It was very good.

Why am I not absolutely raving about it like my friend from the utility company?

Three reasons:

  • The patty was small. I have become accustomed to the double patty’s when they are this small (thanks 5 Guys.)
  • Not enough sauce.
  • The price point. My meal was over $17 with fries and a drink.

Would I recommend this spot to a friend?

Absolutely. They are great burgers.
