When visiting downtown Alpharetta, if you are a beer connoisseur, make sure you make time to stop into Jekyll Brewing.

I am on a mission to visit all of the breweries near Atlanta, today I visited Jekyll Brewing.

I can remember a time, not long ago, when there were no breweries in Alpharetta. I love seeing many new breweries set up shop in the area. Jekyll was one of the first breweries in the northern suburbs and I was excited to see them create a brewpub concept.

Residents are very thankful that the local governments changed some antiquated laws.

On a personal note, back in my corporate days, I used to work within a few miles from the original Jekyll brewery in Alpharetta. My company would host corporate events a the Marconi location and once, I even took a brewery tour, which was nice, but not as appealing to me as the new downtown Alpharetta restaurant and bar.

Jekyll Taproom

The main tap room is a large, open space with plenty of tables for eating or drinking. In the very back you will find a large bar. The decor is beach inspired, making you long for a trip back to Jekyll Island.

For beers, I enjoyed two pints. The Hop Dang Diggity and the Vienna Lager. The Hop Dang Diggity is hop forward, but has a nice malty and somewhat sweet aftertaste. It’s well balanced.

I wanted to try something a little lighter. I have had the Kolsch before, but never tried the lager. Having grown up in a town with one of the largest lager breweries in the country, my expectations were high. It was good, but didn’t exceed my expectations.

Jekyll Menu and Food

For appetizer, the four of us shared the Bavarian Pretzel with creole mustard and beer cheese. It was delicious and paired nicely with the IPA. I just wish they provided more beer cheese. Between the four of us, the awkward unspoken argument over the last of the cheese ensued.

We also shared the falafel appetizer. It was good.

For dinner I had the Bison-Wagyu Beef Smash Burger. I have eaten many burgers in my day, it’s one of the better burgers I’ve had, especially enjoyed with comeback sauce. The sauce is delicious. Overall great burger, although a little pricey, it deserves a sport on the list of best burgers in Atlanta.

I ordered the side salad instead of fries. My attempt at eating healthy.

Jekyll Brewing, The Good And The Bad

Overall, we found the location in downtown Alpharetta, pleasant. The brewery was packed on this Friday night.

Jekyll Brewing Rooftop Bar
My beer enjoying the Alpharetta sunset.

We loved the rooftop bar after dinner, placing it onto the list of our favorite rooftop bars in the Atlanta area. Again, it was crowded, but we enjoyed a nice sunset view.

The only negative, other than the lack of beer cheese with the pretzel, was the noise level in the main dining area and taproom. At times, I could not hear the people in our dinner party unless they were yelling.

Definitely put this brew pub on the top of the list for a fun night out in the suburbs.
