Have you been looking for a casino resort while visiting or living in Atlanta, Georgia? We’ve scouted it out. Here are four great casino resorts near Atlanta and one boat casino.

Georgia has some of the least friendly gambling laws in the country. I’ll admit it, one of the reasons moving to Atlanta was difficult was because of the lack of casino’s and my love of Texas Hold’em.

What I found is, while not right down the street, there are a few casino’s within a reasonable drive from Atlanta.

Most require a weekend in a hotel or resort, if you have the means. One has a poker room and even a WSOP tournament.

The first two casinos listed here are located on the Cherokee Indian reservation in North Carolina, just a short drive north from Atlanta.

Located in Murphy, North Carolina, this is one of the closest casinos to Atlanta and is an easy stop if you are staying in the north Georgia mountains.

One of the largest casinos near Atlanta, the Harrah’s Cherokee has a lot to offer and one of the only places for live poker. They even host an annual WSOP event.

The hotel is 21 stories and offers over 1100 rooms. There are over 30 restaurants in and near the casino and a golf course on the property.

While not a resort, this last one is a casino boat. It is truly the only casino in Georgia. Well, technically it only leaves from Georgia. Hop aboard the Emerald Princess in Brunswick Georgia. This ship currently runs Thursday through Sunday. Be sure to check their most recent sailing schedule.

There is a fee to board the ship. Once on board, there are slots and table games available. In addition, dining is available.

This casino boat if best enjoyed while visiting one of the many golden isles of Georgia.

At the time of writing, Georgia has not legalized gambling and this casino is still just a concept. Foxwoods is trying to entice legislators to legalize gambling in the state of Georgia with a $1 billion dollar casino and resort near Atlanta Motor Speedway.
