After our first visit to the Tabernacle in Atlanta, it will be a venue that we will be return to time and again. There is not a bad seat in the place and if you prefer the floor, you can get very close to the stage and the artist.

The Tabernacle’s acoustics are amazing. However, It can get very loud. You can feel the floors shaking as the bass is pumping. You may even notice the hairs on your arms vibrating from the speakers.

It’s really a unique Atlanta concert venue, that continues to draw great musicians.

The Tabernacle is located in the Centennial Park Atlanta. This is a district of downtown Atlanta that is packed with tourist attractions and sporting events and one of the busiest Atlanta neighborhoods.

The Atlanta Tabernacle Building History

We know the Tabernacle of today, where it featured acts like Gun’s and Roses, Eminem, Prince, The Black Crowes and countless other artists.

But did you know it served as a Baptist church?

The Baptist Tabernacle was founded by Dr. Len Broughton. The building design also included three additional buildings for nurses quarters and a hospital. It opened in 1910 as the Georgia Baptist Medical Center and nursing school.

The Tabernacle building itself served as a church until 1994 when the congregation decided to sell it.

In 1994 it was purchased and converted into a House of Blues, primarily for entertainment during the Olympics held in Atlanta in 1996.

After the House of Blues lease expired, it was renamed the Tabernacle and the business was sold to Live Nation in 1999.

As you walk in from Luckie Street, you can go upstairs to the main stage level or head downstairs to the lower level.

Tabernacle Lower Level

You probably won’t spend a ton of time on the lower level during concert day but there are a few things down there.

First, the main bathrooms are located downstairs. There are other bathrooms in the balconies, but if you are staying on stage level, you will need to head downstairs for the facilities.

Second, the concert merchandise was located downstairs.

Third, there is a bar where the bartender serves really stiff drinks. My vodka soda, was literally all Tito’s vodka with a splash of soda and a lime. It didn’t bother until the next morning.

Fourth, there is a smoking area.

Tabernacle Stage Level

The main stage level has beverage stations on either side of the stage floor. In the middle, is just standing room and the stage.

My wife is obsessed with Matt Kearney, so that is who we saw on our first visit to the Tabernacle.

Balconies At The Tabernacle

Our tickets were actually for the balcony, but we never made it upstairs. It was so much fun just standing on the main floor.

From our vantage point, there didn’t appear to be a bad seat in the house if you prefer to sit for the concert.

Atlanta Tabernacle Capacity

The listed capacity of the Atlanta Tabernacle is 2,600. This includes premium seating, VIP seating and standing room in the main concert hall.

Parking Near the Atlanta Tabernacle

While purchasing our concert tickets at the Tabernacle, we also purchased parking tickets at the LAZ parking deck, which we did. It was only a two block walk from the Tabernacle. We didn’t need to purchase in advance, but we always like being prepared.

There are plenty of parking decks in the area, but we didn’t want to circle around the city looking for parking.

The address for the LAZ parking deck is 100 Luckie St NW, Atlanta, GA 30303.

For more parking information, check the Tabernacles FAQ page.
