If you are the type of foodie who loves to find a diamond in the rough, Union Hill Grill is a restaurant you should try.
This restaurant is not in one of the bustling downtown Atlanta suburbs. Union Hill Grill is located in a small strip mall between many horse farms and cow pastures.
When I first pulled up, I will admit, I was apprehensive. Below you will a review of my experience at Union Hill Grill in Canton, Ga.
Union Hill Grill Restaurant
Once inside, my apprehension quickly subsided.
The decor was was attractive, yet casual. Its the kind of place they put brown paper on the table top and let the kids have fun with crayons. It feels homey with a farmhouse touch to it. You could tell it was the kind of restaurant usually reserved for a date night, even though they made the kids feel right at home.
There were two separate rooms. To the right was a dining area and to the left was a more casual bar area. When we arrived at 5pm the L shaped bar was already full of folks chatting, having a drink and some were waiting for take out.
Next to the bar were a few tables by the window. This is where we sat.
The service was excellent. One of owners stopped by a couple times to chat with the kids and to make sure the service was perfect.
You could tell they really want everyone to leave with a positive experience. It seems to be working. I only heard of this restaurant through word of mouth.
Union Hill Grill Food
When we arrived, my kids were starving, with extraordinary emphasis. To our surprise, there was a giant pretzel on the menu. I ordered it, even though it came with a $20 price tag.
I wanted to snap a picture of the pretzel because it looked great, but my kids beat me to it and they started eating before I could. The pretzel came with mustard and a cheese dip. On the side was a large pile of prosciutto, which I thought was a nice touch. Especially since I barely had any pretzel.
The menu had so many options to pick from. The menu featured recipes that are classic southern American dishes.
I opted for the blackened Red fish. I love Red fish, yet I usually cannot find it to prepare for myself. It was served with jalapeno cheddar grits and green beans. The fish had a slight crisp on the outside, and was soft and delicate on the inside. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I loved the slight heat on the cheddar grits to accompany fish. It was a great dish.
The kids ordered the chicken fingers with French fries. No complaints there.
Even though this restaurant is out of the way, this will be a place my wife and I will bring friends and family for the great service and outstanding food.
