The 12 Best Mountain Biking Trails Near Atlanta

Atlanta is home to some amazing mountain biking trails. Most of the trails are easily accessible to residents in town or folks living outside the perimeter. There are many great mountain biking trails near Atlanta if you know which parks in Atlanta offer them. Here you will find 12 great options for mountain biking in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

You see, when I first moved here, there wasn’t a lot of information available. In fact, I lived less than 10 miles away from Olde Rope Mill Park trails, but I didn’t even know it existed for 2 years. Back then, the park got little traffic. Nowadays the parking lot is packed every weekend.

In this post, I will share the details of some of the best parks to ride single-track trails, starting with a map.

About Trail Difficulty

All of the trails are marked by difficulty. If you are a beginner mountain biker, stick with the beginner trails. The beginner trails will be more flat and have less roots, rocks, ditches or streams to cross. They will be manicured and usually will provide a bridge to get over difficult areas. Not always, but mostly.

For Intermediate trails, you can expect a good work out with lots of hills, twists and turns. Usually the trails are manicured, but they will have roots to jump over, perhaps a jump or two, and some trails will be littered with stones.

Advanced trails are usually more difficult and more technical. There are a few mountain bike trails in the Atlanta area where there are steep drop off’s and I did not feel comfortable on my bike and I had to carry it for large sections of trial. The Van Michael trail at Blankets creek comes to mind.

Stick to your experience level and have fun out there!
