Historic Woodstock, Georgia is a growing Atlanta suburb and home to an idyllic, Main Street. Downtown Woodstock GA offers plenty of things to do like visiting shops, breweries, an outdoor amphitheater, parks and many restaurants.

The downtown area blends the new residential buildings with the old shops and restaurants along Main Street. This town has all classic southern charm you would envision for a southern city near Atlanta.

The city center is walkable, with a paved trail connecting the best things of Woodstock.

Woodstock Brief History

Settlers in the early 1800’s flocked to the area for the gold rush. A large many miles long gold belt was discovered in the area. Therefore, mining and agriculture were the primary occupations. Cities began to develop in Cherokee county with Woodstock being one of them.

Settlers grew cotton as the primary crop. Rope Mill and other gristmills were powered by the local rivers and creeks. The cotton was turned into rope for plowing and mining.

Today, Woodstock is a modern, fast growing suburb of Atlanta. It provides easy access to downtown, while retaining the charm of the small town living.

Woodstock Name Origin

As with most of the cities in Atlanta, the name of Woodstock, Ga is unknown for certain even though it held this name since the early 1800’s. Here are the commonly assumed origins.

  • It was named after the book from Sir Walter Scott
  • It was named after the train stop where they would restock the wood supply.

Demographics

Accorded to the census, Woodstock’s population grew from 23,896 residents in 2010 to 36,198 in 2021. That is over a 50% growth in population in about a decade. This area of metropolitan Atlanta is growing rapidly.

The median household income of people living in Woodstock is just over $81,000 from the data in 2021. A little over 48% hold a bachelor’s degree.

Attractions and Entertainment

Stars and Strikes Family Entertainment Center is one of the best bowling alley’s in Atlanta metropolitan area. It is also a great place to play laser tag, axe throwing, bumper cars, arcade and much more. It’s fun for the entire family.

The Stars and Strikes offers competitive bowling leagues.You many also bring the family or celebrate a birthday party here. Just remember to reserve a lane on busy days.

AMF Woodstock Lanes is a traditional bowling alley that features bowling leagues, drop in bowling or kids parties.

MadLife Stage & Studio’s is a music venue and restaurant in the heart of downtown Woodstock. There is an indoor stage and a patio stage when the weather is nice. If you are a upcoming performer, there is also a studio.

The Blue Ghost Arcade is an arcade and gaming center that also serves up cocktails and favorite local brews. They have some of your favorite classic arcade games like Frogger, Mario Brothers and Pac Man.

Berry Patch Farms is a farm in Woodstock where you enjoy seasonal activities like berry picking. They also have a family favorite pumpkin patch in the fall where you can take a hay ride and enjoy a fresh baked hand pie.


Golfing

There are two public golf courses in Woodstock:

The Club at Bradshaw Farm offers 3 nine hole courses and has rolling hills, ponds and a clubhouse perched a top a hill.

Town Lake Hills Golf Course is an Arthur Hills course and features rolling green hills and lovely wooded countryside.


Woodstock Shopping

The Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta is located right off of 575 north from 75 in Woodstock. This is an outdoor outlet mall featuring some well known brands like Nike, Under Armour, Coach and Levi’s. Surrounding the mall, you will find Chick-Fil-A and other fast food places. There is also a Marlow’s Tavern and an Applebee’s.

Downtown Woodstock has many shops, antiques and restaurants to explore. One of the best things to do in Woodstock, Ga is spend the afternoon window shopping the antique shops, one of the best bookstores in Atlanta area (Foxtale Book Shoppe, bakeries, salons and apparel shops.

Parks and Recreation

Olde Rope Mill Park is one of our favorite parks in Atlanta, let alone Woodstock. Our family loves it because there is something everyone loves to do. I love the mountain bike trails and everyone in the family loves to hike and kayak there. Sometimes the kids even enjoy an afternoon on the riverbanks trying to catch fish.

Dupree Park has a fitness trail, almost a mile of family friendly mountain bike trails, a fishing pond, tennis and pickleball courts.

Woofstock Dog Park is one of the many dog friendly parks in Atlanta‘s metro area. This park was created as a FEMA project after an apartment complex was demolished after flooding. In addition to the dog friendly park, this park also features multiple walking trails.

The Park at City Center features a large outdoor amphitheater, benches and a fountain.

JJ Biello Park is mostly sports fields like soccer fields and baseball fields. There is also a large playground.

Noonday Creek Trail is a walking trail that connects downtown Woodstock with Woofstock Dog Park

Towne Lake Pass Trail is a trail along Noonday Creek and ends at Woofstock Dog Park


Dining

There are many great dining options in the Woodstock area. We think these are the best restaurants in Woodstock, however there are many options available.

  • Rootstock Restaurant & Bar is a great date night restaurant with a large selection of wine and whiskey to complement your Tapas or entree.
  • Freight Kitchen & Tap features southern inspired dishes and has amazing cocktails.
  • Prime 120 is a premium steakhouse with dry aged, Kobe or Wagyu cuts of beef.
  • Main & Mill features a seasonal menu and cocktails with views of downtown Woodstock.
  • Salt Factory Pub is an English Pub with a cozy interior and fantastic menu.
  • Pure Taqueria is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in the Atlanta metro area.
  • Maple Street Biscuit is a breakfast spot with many amazing chicken and biscuit options.

Brewery in Woodstock

Reformation Brewery in Woodstock is one of three locations for this brewery concept. The inside of the brewery is small, but the outside has plenty of seating. There are picnic tables and Adirondack chairs. All the seating has tree coverage to provide shade on hot Georgia days.


Bars

Keegan’s Irish Pub is one of the best Irish pubs in Atlanta metro Area. The Woodstock location is one of three in the metro area.

The Place is a bar, grill and nightclub. It routinely features a DJ and has a dancefloor.

The Daily Draft is a sports bar on Main Street in Woodstock. It’s a great spot to watch the game, eat pub food or play bar games like pool or darts.

Gameday Fresh Grill Woodstock is a bar and grill perfect for watching your favorite sports event.


Unique Coffee Shops

Copper Coin is a classic coffee shop and cafe. This is great spot to grab your favorite espresso drink.

Black Rifle Coffee Company has great coffee and interesting apparel in the store.


Woodstock Events

Summer Concert Series are free concerts in downtown Woodstock, GA in the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Amphitheater. The series usually runs from May to September.

Taste of Woodstock is an annual event with over 10 years running. The event is held on the Woodstock Arts Event Green and features the best restaurants in Woodstock.

WDSTKtoberfest features Bavarian food and beer from participating restaurants. There is also an accompanied pub crawl.


Woodstock Hotels

  • Holiday Inn Express & Suites – Woodstock is conveniently located off of 575 in the Outlet shopping mall area.
  • There is a cluster of hotels off of 575 at 92. Your best bet is to use the map below to check for the good rate in this area.
