Being that it is October, what better brewery to visit than the Tucker Brewing Company, which is located in Tucker, GA. We were actually in the area, only 5 miles from the brewery. I couldn’t resist.
The brewery features a very large, and one of the best beer gardens in Atlanta.
The beer garden has everything you could want from a family run brewery. It has an open play space for kids, you can bring your dogs, it has TV’s if there is a game on and it even has a small stage for live music.
When we were there, the only beers on draft were lagers and pilsners and a few other German specialty beers. If you are looking for IPA’s, you will need to find another brewery. But, what you will find are some of the most flavorful beers, without the heaviness that comes with ales.
For those following along, this our is eighth Atlanta brewery review and visit.
The Tucker Brewery and Taproom
Inside the brewery is a very long bar. Fortunately, the day we visited the weather was beautiful outside. Everyone wanted to be in the beer garden.
The beer garden had plenty of picnic tables and benches in the middle. Around the perimeter of the beer garden were proper tables with chairs that had seat backs.
There were a few TV’s mounted to the outside of the building. It was a perfect spot to watch the Falcon’s game when we were there.
Also outside was a small stage. While there was no music playing during our visit, we could see how this would be a great venue for local bands in the area.
This is definitely a family friendly brewery. Many people were playing games with their kids and a few folks even brought their dogs.
The beer garden was decorated for halloween and Octoberfest. This was expected, given the breweries heavy favor towards German style beers.
The Food At Tucker Brewing
We visited the brewery on Sunday afternoon at 2:45. We were only ordering appetizers as we had a dinner commitment later in the day. Unfortunately we hit the sweet spot when the kitchen closed between 3 and 3:30 pm for the transition from brunch to dinner. Luckily, we got our order in for a pretzel, which my son absolutely loved.
I loved the cheese sauce more!
I had to wait for my wings for a half hour. It didn’t really bother me. There were beers to sample.
Most of the menu is German inspired. Usually I would have ordered something unique to the restaurant like a chicken schnitzel or the sauerkraut bites, but it was 3 pm, I skipped lunch and I wanted a substantial appetizer like chicken wings to hold me over until dinner.
The wings were ok, but probably not worthy of being named the best wings in Atlanta.
The Beers At Tucker Brewing
My favorite beers used to be IPA’s and New England style IPA’s, but I am starting to favor lighter beers like lagers and pilsners. If you agree, Tucker Brewing has some of the best lagers and pilsners in Atlanta. It’s not just my opinion, the Tucker Lager is a gold medal winner from the Great American Beer Festival.
Since it was October, I started out the their Tucktoberfest Marzen Lager. It was absolutely delicious on a fall day. The beer had wonderful flavors of malted caramel and toffee. It is very balanced and crisp, with slightly floral aftertaste. Just fantastic!
For the second beer, I had to try the Tucker Lager. Just based on its appearance, you can see this golden lager shines. Looks are deceiving, this beer has a lot of flavor and it has a sweetness you can taste, yet is well balanced with bitterness. This is definitely a beer you can have more than one of, at just 4.7% ABV.
If I lived closer, I would have kept the beers coming, but I had to drive. However, I enjoyed them so much that I took a twelve pack of cans to go. I am especially excited to try the pilsner next weekend!
