The Major Cities in the Atlanta Metropolitan Area

Atlanta is a sprawling metropolis. When most people think of Atlanta, they think of downtown Atlanta, Midtown Atlanta or Buckhead. Did you know there are many other cities in Atlanta that make up the metro area? Many of them are fantastic places to live, work and play.

Most of these cities make up the suburbs of Atlanta. They provide for a relatively easy commute into the city of Atlanta.

The list of cities will be grouped by direction from the city center to the north, south, east and west.

But first, let’s start with the obvious one!

City of Atlanta

Well, obviously the city of Atlanta is in the Atlanta metropolitan area!

This sprawling city includes many Atlanta neighborhoods that would rival many other cities in the country, like Buckhead, Grant Park, Centennial Park or Midtown.

This city has almost 500,000 residents within the city limits and many more in the surrounding areas. The entire metro area of Atlanta has more the 6 million people that call it home!

Cities North of Atlanta

This area is comprised of parts of Fulton, Forsyth, Gwinnett, Cobb, Cherokee and Dekalb counties.

Cities South of Atlanta

This area is comprised of parts of Fulton, Fayette, Clayton, Coweta, Henry, Spalding and Dekalb counties.

Cities East of Atlanta

This area is comprised of parts of Gwinnett, Dekalb, Rockdale, Barrow, Walton and Newton counties.

Cities West of Atlanta

This area is comprised of parts of Cobb, Bartow, Fulton, Paulding, and Douglas counties.
