Just a block down the street from Little Five Points in Candler Park, Fox Bros. BBQ offers some of the best barbecue in all of Atlanta.
Two twin brothers transplanted from Fort Worth, Texas longed for the classic Texas style barbecue. So the story goes, after cooking for friends, family and small gatherings, they quickly turned into cooking for 250 people more and offering catering. This apparent BBQ success lead the brothers to open Fox Bros. BBQ in 2007 at the Candler Park location in Atlanta.
The Fox Bros. BBQ team has been up to a lot since then. They serve BBQ in the Mercedes Benz Stadium and in Truist Park. They also opened a BBQ kiosk in 2016 in the Armour Yards development. Then, in 2021 they finally opened another stand alone, large scale BBQ restaurant in the upper Westside of Atlanta at the Works, alongside Dr. Scofflaw Brewing.
For this post, we decided to start our review with the original location.
Fox Bros. BBQ Location in Atlanta
Located across the street from train tracks and the Marta rails, Fox Bros. BBQ restaurant has large outdoor patio and seating area. Inside, you will find a classic barbeque feel with wood panelling, sports on the TV and knick knacks abound.
While nothing fancy, the restaurant is everything you want from a good barbeque spot. It has a casual feel, fast service and excellent food.
The only bad thing about the restaurant is the small parking lot that is really tight and runs one way. So if you miss the turn in, you will need to circle the block.
Don’t do what I did and enter the parking lot the wrong way, there isn’t enough room to move two cars past each other. You will get dirty looks.
However, there is plenty of parking in the surrounding neighborhood.
The Food at Fox Brothers Barbecue
There is a reason they have had so much success at Fox Bros BBQ. The food is outstanding.
Me and my boys stopped by Fox Bros. after a long day walking at Zoo Atlanta. The boys had pulled pork BBQ sandwiches, which they devoured.
I wanted to try two things, the wings and since they are known for Texas BBQ, I had to try the brisket.
Fox Bros. Chicken Wings
The wings are some of the best wings in Atlanta. The skins are crispy and the meat is extremely tender, yet it doesn’t just fall off the bone. They are about the close to perfectly cooked wings that I could ask for.
You can order them with a dry rub or sauced. I went for the sauced version as I love a spicy BBQ wing sauce. It’s not like you traditional hot wings, but this style wing is my favorite.
The sauce is well balanced. Slightly sweet, my guess is there is some molasses or honey in the sauce. There is saltiness, probably from the dry rub and you can just taste a little acid from the vinegar in the BBQ sauce. The combination of everything, mixed together on the wings are just delightful.
Fox Bros. BBQ Brisket
I also ordered the sliced brisket. While ordering, they will ask you if you want a fatty cut or a lean cut of brisket. Since this was my first time ordering their brisket, I went with the fatty cut. This is the most tender part of the brisket.
The brisket was served over a piece of bread. The meat was fork tender and some of the best brisket I have sampled (that didn’t come from my backyard smoker.)
For sides, I tried the potato salad and the collard greens. The potato salad was good, but not out of this world. The collard greens had just the right amount of spice. Neither of the sides outshined the brisket. In fact, I ate all of the brisket, and brought home most of the sides.
